The short answer

How Minecraft got inside GTA 5

Nobody merged the two games. GTA 5 and Minecraft run on the same PC at the same time, each with a small mod, and every frame GTA sends Minecraft its camera while Minecraft sends back its picture. GTA then checks every pixel to see which game's thing is closer, so a cop car can hide a Minecraft block.

Did AI merge Minecraft and GTA 5?

No. Both games run at the same time, each with its own small mod, and the two mods share the camera, the ground and the picture every frame

Is Steve really walking around Los Santos?

You're walking GTA's own character, made invisible, and Steve is drawn exactly where he stands

Who built it?

One person directing Claude Code on Opus 5.5 over about two days, according to the project's notes. The commit that added the mod carries Claude's co-author line

Can I play it?

Only on Windows, built from the original repo's source, with exact versions of both games. The full breakdown has the setup steps and a safety checklist

In plain English

How it starts: the first 3 of 7 steps

Each step with the clip from the video that shows it

  1. Nobody merged the two games

GTA 5 in story mode and a normal copy of Minecraft run on the same PC at the same time. Each one gets a small mod, and the two mods talk to each other. You look at GTA's window, and Minecraft's stays open right behind it.

  2. GTA hands Minecraft its camera

Every frame, GTA sends Minecraft the exact camera it rendered with, and Minecraft films the same shot with its sky, fog and clouds turned off. One meter in GTA is one block in Minecraft.

  3. You're not really playing Steve

You walk GTA's own character (Michael, Franklin or Trevor, whoever you're playing), and the mod makes him invisible. Steve is pinned to exactly where he stands, with collision switched off.
